Important Notice

SIU's contract with Echo360 will expire on June 30, 2026, due to fiscal priorities and redundancy in software.  Instructors are encouraged to begin planning for alternative solutions for lecture capture and video content management. Lecture Capture Transition & Content Renewal Policy

CTE will provide assistance, as needed, to instructors with transferring video course content recorded on or after August 1, 2023, from Echo360 to institutional storage locations such as OneDrive or local devices.

  • Transition Support

    CTE will assist instructors with transferring course videos recorded on or after August 1, 2024, to approved storage locations.
    If you’d like help restoring or re-embedding Echo360 videos into your D2L course, please submit a request at least two months before your course begins so we can schedule support and training as needed.  Example: For a course starting in August, please contact CTE by early June.

  • Older Content

    Following best practices in online teaching, we recommend refreshing any video content more than three years old to ensure quality, relevance, and accessibility.

    Lecture capture recordings created before August 1, 2023, are the instructor’s responsibility to download, archive, or replace.

  • Outgoing Content Renewal

    To keep course content evergreen and ensure compliance with digital standards, instructors are expected to review and update recorded lecture materials at least once every three years or more often when changes in disciplines or technology occur.

    CTE offers guidance, tools, and consultations to help you:

    • Evaluate the continued usefulness of existing videos
    • Redesign or re-record outdated materials
    • Ensure all recordings meet ADA Title II and accessibility standards

Transferring Your Echo360 Videos

Downloading Video Content from Echo360:
Goal: Save MP4 copies of your videos from your Echo360 Library to your desktop or local device.
1. Log into https://echo360.org.
2. Click on your Library tab in the top menu.
3. Hover over a video and click the three-dot (⋮) menu.
4. Select Download, choose the MP4 format (highest quality if given options).
5. Repeat for each video you'd like to keep.
6. Save the videos in a clearly labeled folder on your desktop (e.g., “Lecture Videos - Fall 2025”) or you can store your recordings in your Microsoft Office 365 OneDrive folder. (See Step 2)  Each user at SIU has 1 terabyte of storage space allocated to them for institutional use.

PLEASE NOTE:  Unfortunately there isn’t any way to “Bulk” download your video recordings from Echo360, they will need to be done manually one at a time.

 

Uploading MP4 Files to Microsoft OneDrive:
Goal: Safely store your video files in the cloud.
1. Open your Microsoft OneDrive Folder (offered through Microsoft Office365)
2. Select “Upload” > “Files” from the top toolbar.
3. Locate and select your Echo360 MP4 files from your Desktop.
4. (Optional) Create a folder called “Lecture Videos” to stay organized and simply drag & drop your files into your OneDrive folder.
