This page outlines the instructional requirements of all 100- and 200-level courses across the SIU curriculum, regardless of instructional modality. 300-level courses taught in the University Core Curriculum must also comply with these requirements.
Instructors should use this page as a checklist and resource to ensure 100- and 200-level courses meet baseline requirements for academic quality, transparency, and accessibility. Instructors are encouraged to apply these practices at all course levels.
Goal: Every course includes a complete, current syllabus that aligns with university policy and provides regular, timely updates on student performance (i.e., an up-to-date gradebook).
Syllabus Minimum Requirements
- Include all required components listed in the SIU Syllabus Policy (course title, number, instructor contact information, office hours, etc.).
- Clearly communicate course goals, grading policies, and participation requirements.
- Use the current SIU's syllabus and course outline template for consistency across programs.
- Upload your syllabus to D2L Brightspace before the first day of class. The syllabus and outline should be located in Content (first module)
