What is Echo 360?

A lecture capture and active learning platform designed to enhance student engagement in and out of the classroom.

Instructors can take polls, surveys, or give quizzes to students, receiving instant feedback during their lecture. Echo360’s many features also include confusion flags, discussion capabilities, and note-taking options for students, while providing custom analytics in a format integrated with the MyCourses system.

How do I get started with Echo 360?

What if I ONLY use the lecture capture features in Echo 360?

If you are interested in using the lecture capture feature only, that is fine. You can record your lectures using the lecture capture software in Echo360, save them to your private Echo360 library, and post each of the recordings as "Public Links" within your MyCourses (D2L) modules. However, consider using the additional features that Echo360 has to offer. There are many, so you might want to choose one at a time and find out what features are helpful to you and your students.

Additional help with Echo 360?

I am home and my recordings won't upload!

Keep in mind that if you live in an area with poor network connections, or the networks are jammed with excessive use in the area, remember that you can always record your lectures and upload them at a later time when the connection is better, or it might be helpful to visit campus and allow our upgraded network systems to upload the recordings for you. Just bring the device you recorded your lecture on and connect to the SIU network and echo should take care of the rest.

Can I make these "Public Links" in Echo 360 private to protect sensitive materials in my course?

Yes. There are actually 2 ways in the Echo360 platform to protect your class materials. You can use one or the other, or both to make content the most secure. The first method can be done by your Echo360 Administrator, Jeff Garner - jgarner@siu.edu; it involves disabling or deleting, the public links to your recordings. That means if anyone copies the link to your recording and tries to access it on a browser outside of the Echo360 platform, an error message will occur. Also instructors have the ability downloads to manually turn off content within their Echo360 course.
