Questions Regarding New Faculty Orientation

Is benefits orientation included in this session?

What is the attire?

Is registration required?

I am a new faculty member, but I did not receive an invitation. May I still register?

I actually began my appointment last fall/this spring, but I was not able to attend last year. May I attend this year?

My colleague is new to SIU, but they did not receive an invitation.

I have a prior engagement and will not be able to attend. Can I still get the information?

While we encourage you to attend orientation in order to receive the greatest benefit to help you navigate your first year at SIU, we understand that the start of the semester is a hectic time. If you are unable to attend, please contact Clarissa Terbrak (terbrak@siu.edu) so that she can provide you with copies of the materials presented during orientation.

I enjoyed meeting my fellow new faculty. What additional opportunities will I have to meet other faculty outside my department/school?

We encourage you to develop rewarding relationships with faculty across campus. They can help provide insight and inspiration and serve as collaborators and informal mentors. In large part, you will need to be proactive – walking around campus, participating in faculty discussion groups, attending campus activities and workshops, and volunteering in the community. The Public Events Calendar can help keep you informed about happenings on campus. The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) website also provides information on upcoming workshops and training sessions for faculty.
